Certification

Students who are deemed competent for this qualification will receive RII40420 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations. This is recognised as a qualifying course for sitting the statutory exams for mine deputy in both New South Wales and Queensland. The 14 units of competency in this course are nationally recognised. There are 10 core units plus 4 electives to do to be awarded this qualification.

Course Duration

Typically, the volume of learning is 0.5 to 2 years (600 to 2400 hours). The course duration depends on how quickly a candidate can work through the study guides and assessment guides and in turn demonstrate competence.

• If a participant is being sponsored by their company, then the course fees are payable in full up-front.
• If you are self-funded, then we have a payment plan consisting of instalments. For this, the initial (non-refundable) enrolment fee is $1500. The remainder is to be paid over instalments or before the statement of attainment is awarded.

Course Overview

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals, including mine supervisors or deputies, working in underground coal mines, who perform tasks involving a broad range of day-to-day, operational activities in their area of responsibility. They are responsible for ensuring a safe work environment through applying the safety and health management system for a mine, including monitoring the quantity and quality of output, supervising others and applying solutions to non-routine problems.
